Metabolic health issues continue to grow across the State of Mississippi and the Southeast. In fact, Mississippi still leads the nation rates of Obesity and Diabetes as well as being last -- 50th --in the latest Community Wellbeing Index. A great expert panel shared their views on solutions for  employers and one employer discussed their value-based strategy that they have been building for over ten years which has shown tremendous results. Attendees reported that the information was timely, relevant, and "on point"; and employers should do more to provide a supportive environment and benefits to encourage and engage employees and their families into positive lifestyle changes and disease management supports.

As we continue through this current pandemic, employers are looking more deeply into their 2021 and 2022 health-plan benefit designs. Cancer is now one of the regularly occurring top claims in most employer-sponsored health plans.  Cancer affects the patient, their family, and their workplace and needs to be considered when building  out more value-based designs.

The COVID-19 & Employers Zoom meeting series was a success and evaluations show positive results of the offerings. The next series will be in three parts where we will explore CANCER & Employers. The first session will review a national and local perspective on employers and cancer trends and learn about local efforts to support cancer prevention and research. The second session will be about diagnostics, treatments, and future expectations. The third session will be about value-based cancer care initiatives with a national innovator and some local thought leaders.
