Tell us about your role in promoting employee health:
I work at SFBLI in the Corporate Training and Health Promotion program. Our team has the privilege of helping employees with career and professional development, personal development, and overall wellbeing.
How is SFBLI promoting employee health and wellness?
At SFBLI, we approach our employees’ overall wellbeing as it relates to professional and personal growth. We see each employee as unique individuals and try to engage them where they are in life.
We offer an onsite cafeteria with many healthy options for mindful eating and encourage physical activity throughout the workday. We also offer an health clinic where health plan members can access care onsite and engage in meaningful conversations with providers and dietitians.
What are some challenges to promoting employee health at SFBLI?
We are currently facing challenges related to extending our reach to dependents and family members of our employees. Addressing and shifting the culture of health in Mississippi has also been a challenge.
How is SFBLI working to address these challenges?
We are creating our own culture of health within the building and throughout the company. We are working to reach out to SFBLI employees family members through offering access to the onsite clinic as well as health premium discounts. SFBLI also sponsors and hosts various community events and collaborations. For example, we sponsor the Southern Farm Bureau Watermelon Classic 5K Run/Walk, diabetes walks, and sponsor employee participation in other local races and events.
I am excited about the progress that the business community in the state has shown in promoting healthy behaviors at the workplace. I am proud that SFBLI serves as a leader and mentor in helping other employers adopt best practices.
